Miseka Diggs is a dedicated advocate for individuals impacted by the carceral system, both inside and outside of incarceration. Sentenced to 14 years with a mandatory minimum of 7 years for a nonviolent drug offense, Miseka began her higher education journey and advocacy work during her incarceration. While incarcerated, she earned an Associate degree in Sociology and later received a scholarship to the Honors Living-Learning Community (HLLC) at Rutgers University-Newark, where she is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work with a minor in Social Justice.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Miseka works with various nonprofits, championing carceral reform and fostering community among women affected by the carceral system. She is actively involved in organizing the upcoming New Jersey Community and Corrections Working Summit 2025, an initiative aimed at addressing and reforming mass incarceration, particularly the disproportionate impact on communities of color in New Jersey. Miseka’s story and work exemplify her unwavering commitment to creating pathways for equity and systemic change.
