Crime Data and Analytics

Crime data from January 1st, 2024 through November 17th, 2024, compared to the same period in 2023, suggest a 12% increase in violent crimes, with increases in aggravated assaults and robberies.

There has been a 9% decrease in overall citywide property crime incidents. This year, citywide auto thefts are decreasing. However, theft from autos has increased by 66%.

Additionally, violent crime tends to happen more often at nighttime, with the highest concentration happening on the weekends.

 
 

 


Spatial Analysis for Property and Violent Crime

- Executive Summary -

Our most recent analyses for property crime have identified abandoned properties, vacant lots, bodegas/corner stores, and pawnshops/thrift stores/cash-checking services as problem-prone places. Moreover, areas near vacant lots, public housing, abandoned properties, retail stores and bodegas/corner stores are at an increased risk for violent crime victimization.

We will continue to monitor potential changes in the distribution of these incidents to inform NPSC’s data-informed community engagement efforts.
