Elizabeth Griffiths is a Professor in the School of Criminal Justice at Rutgers University - Newark. Some of her research is focused on the geography of crime and violence, with particular attention to the spatial dynamics of gun violence, gang activity, and drug markets. She has explored how neighborhood characteristics, physical features of place, and policy contexts—including policing strategies and public housing arrangements—shape patterns of violence and drug-related crime. Using spatial econometrics, causal inference techniques, and street network modeling, among other methodologies, her scholarship analyzes the mechanisms that pattern violence in cities, contain it within specific neighborhoods, and facilitate its diffusion across space. This research aims to illuminate the processes that produce and sustain urban crime and violence, and to inform place-based strategies for prevention, public safety, and community well-being.
